Setting Up A Computer

Step 1: Uninstall old software

If you are on a computer with old software, you will need to uninstall it.

  • Go to START menu
  • Search “Add or remove a program”
  • Click on “Add or remove programs”
  • Search for navX
  • Right click on navX, uninstall should come up on the menu that appears, click that
  • Follow instructions to uninstall
  • Search for and uninstall the CTRE Phoenix Framework
  • Search for “National Instruments” and uninstall it
  • When the menu pops up select “Remove All”

If you have installed any other libraries than the ones listed, uninstall them too.

Step 2: Install LabVIEW

  • Go here:
  • Click on FRC LabVIEW Programming
  • Click Installing LabVIEW for FRC (year)
  • *Read through instructions CAREFULLY before doing anything, don’t skim
  • Follow instructions to install
  • When done, pin LabVIEW to taskbar

Step 3: Install FRC Update Suite

  • Go here again:
  • Click FRC LabVIEW Programming
  • Go to Installing the FRC Update Suite
  • Read through and follow instructions
  • When done pin the Driver Station to the task bar

Step 4: Install Extra Libraries

Step 5: Configure LabVIEW

  • Open LabVIEW
  • Go to Tools
  • Go to Options
  • Go to Block Diagram
  • Uncheck “Place front panel terminals as icons”
  • Unchecking the box makes the controls look nice on the block diagram and not boxy and weird

Step 6: Install GIT

  • Go to Git’s website
  • Click download
  • Run the installer and follow the instructions

Step 7: Install Tortoise Git

  • Go to Tortoise Git’s website
  • Click download
  • Run the installer and follow the instructions

Step 8: Configure Tortoise Git

As LabVIEW is not a text-based programming language, we need to configure tortoiseGIT to use LabVIEW’s built in diff and merge tools.

  • Right click in a folder
  • Go to Tortoise Git->Settings
  • Go to Diff Viewer
  • Click Advanced
  • Click Add
  • Type into Extension: .vi
  • Put into External Program: “C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\Shared\LabVIEW Compare\LVCompare.exe” %mine %base -lvpath “C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2018\LabVIEW.exe”
  • Make sure to put it in correctly! That includes the quotation marks
  • Repeat process of adding for Extension .ctl
  • Go to Merge Tool
  • Click advanced
  • Do the same thing with adding, but for external program put: “C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\Shared\LabVIEW Merge\LVMerge.exe” “C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2018\LabVIEW.exe” %base %theirs %mine %merged
  • Make sure the year is the current version of LabVIEW you are using (not necessarily 2018!). If tortoise git is already installed and configured on your computer, simply make sure the year is correct.
